Practice Exercise

Using the IDV bundle, assess the stability of the soundings.

Looking at the bundle, you will notice that four separate soundings have been plotted, each in a different window corresponding to a different colored point on the map in the main IDV window.

1. Kentucky sounding
   
   Look at the layer between 970 mb and 700 mb. Assess the stability of this layer.

2. Minnesota sounding
   
   Look at the layer from 800 mb up to 670 mb. Assess the stability of this layer.

3. New Mexico sounding
   
   Look at the layer from 750 mb up to 540 mb. Assess the stability of this layer.

4. Yucatan Peninsula sounding
   
   Look at the surface layer from 1000 mb to about 950 mb. Assess the stability of this layer.
