Comments: How does one scientifically measure what we Pennsylwania [sic] Dutch call a "track a cat" snow that falls only on colder surfaces like decks and rails but not on even UNtreated paved surfaces? What NOAA calls "a trace" I measure-generously--as half of 1/8 inch; half of 0.125 or 0.0625.
I knew an old gent named Lewis Krebs who swore that the day of the month of the first snowfall was a predictor of the number of snows of the seasons and he would count any "track a cat" snow for that purpose. He died during a winter on which the first snow fell on Christmas Day, and, sure enough, there were--by his "track a cat" reckoning--24 more snows that season.
